As Ratowacze, we demonstrate the correct techniques, correct you and respond on the spot so that you are confident in your actions and don't hesitate to use them when needed. Our first aid courses are above all practice, not dry theory – that is why we meet in person. We focus above all on the quality of training. From experience we know that 12 people per Instructor during one course is the optimal group size, which we recommend. If you need to train more people – we will send you more Ratowacze Instructors 😊

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
How long is your first aid course?

It all depends on the scope of the material you want to cover. We recommend, and usually deliver, a 6–8 hour intensive course. That is how much time we need to cover comprehensive material and to guarantee plenty of practice as well as room for questions and extra explanations for future Ratowacze. The minimum duration of a BLS-AED basics course is 4 hours – in this variant we focus mainly on CPR practice with an AED.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
How many courses can you run in one day?

It depends on several factors, including the training locations and the number of people who want to take part. I want to test my first aid skills.

Yes. We focus above all on practice – for us, the theoretical part is really just a quick introduction to the exercises. We believe that first aid has to be “felt”, which is why exercises on realistic manikins with the support of our Instructors will best prepare you for a situation in which you have to act and give first aid to a casualty. It is also an excellent way to overcome inner resistance and fear of acting. Thanks to realistic scenarios on our courses, you will build confidence that you can cope in an emergency.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Is it possible to order the materials, equipment and dressings presented on your courses? We recommend refresher training to reinforce skills at least twice a year.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
I want to take the course, but I'm afraid I won't be able to help a casualty in an emergency. What should I do?

We understand this fear – it is completely normal and shows that you care. The good news is that our first aid course builds your confidence through practice and realistic scenarios. Practising what to do in a safe environment will prepare you to act when it is needed. Overcome your fears! On our courses we practise without stress: simulations and our feedback mean that even laypeople gain confidence and the will to help in real life.

What's more, adrenaline helps – under stress you act instinctively – studies show that trained people save lives more often, because their body reacts naturally, remembering the actions practised earlier. If you need more confidence – come back to us regularly, because practice makes perfect! It's great that you want to help – you are already a hero!

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
I am at the scene, but I don't know exactly where. How can I manage and call the emergency services without knowing the location?

There are several ways to work out the approximate location of an incident. First of all, we always recommend using the Alarm112 app – when you call for help through the app, the dispatcher sees exactly where you are. You can also use location services and the Maps app on your phone. If electronics don't help, try to determine your direction of travel and use roadside markers (tell the emergency dispatcher what you see on them). Look for the name of the town, street signs and landmarks / distinctive buildings. Even if you don't know the location or are out of your network's coverage – call 112. The emergency number works even without your own network and handles calls 24/7. Because of the way the system works, the dispatcher will roughly know your location and help you find your bearings.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
I am alone at the scene and don't have a phone with me to call for help. What should I do?

You can use the casualty's phone if they have one. Without knowing the device's PIN, just press the button that wakes the phone from sleep and find the handset icon. When you swipe it slightly upwards, the option to make an emergency call will appear on the screen.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Are there apps that can help me call the emergency services in an emergency without having to make a voice call?

Yes. One we recommend is the Alarm112 app. After registering, you can choose to report an incident without having to make a voice call. Note! The Alarm112 app only works in Poland, and internet access is required.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
How many chest compressions should be given to an adult after recognising sudden cardiac arrest?

If you are already trained and have suitable protective equipment (e.g. a rescue breathing mask), you can perform CPR at a ratio of 30 chest compressions : 2 rescue breaths. Compression rate: 100–120 compressions per minute (roughly 2 compressions per second). If you have no helper or protective equipment, or are simply worried about giving breaths – give continuous chest compressions.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
I've heard you don't need to give breaths during BLS – is that true?

If you are trained and not worried about your own safety – a ratio of 30 compressions : 2 rescue breaths gives better results. You can stick to chest compressions only (without breaths) if you are not confident in your skills or are worried about infection. Your safety is always the priority – use gloves and protective masks when giving breaths, especially if you don't know the casualty.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Can chest compressions be given on a soft surface?

No. Chest compressions are given on a firm surface (floor/table) so that they are effective.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
What is the procedure and how many chest compressions should be given to children?

In children, CPR looks slightly different than in adults. In children, cardiac arrest is usually the result of progressive respiratory failure. If you are already trained and have suitable protective equipment (e.g. a rescue breathing mask), start by giving the casualty 5 rescue breaths. Then you can perform CPR at a ratio of 15 chest compressions : 2 rescue breaths. Compression rate: 100–120 compressions per minute (roughly 2 compressions per second). If you are not trained, start resuscitation with 5 rescue breaths and continue at a ratio of 30 chest compressions : 2 rescue breaths.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
How do I know whether to treat the casualty as a child or an adult when giving chest compressions in sudden cardiac arrest?

If you are not sure which compression procedure to choose, look at the casualty's appearance. If you notice signs of puberty (e.g. adult proportions), treat them as an adult.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Are smaller rescue breathing masks available for infants and children of different ages?

Yes. Different sizes of rescue breathing masks are available on the market, including for children and infants. They are used to provide a tight seal for assisted ventilation during resuscitation. Choosing the right mask for the casualty (by body weight or age) is key to giving good-quality breaths without leaks or airway injuries. Certified (CE) silicone masks with a soft rim are recommended for an optimal seal.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
How does a rescue breathing mask protect me?

A rescue breathing mask protects the rescuer from infection by the casualty's body fluids (e.g. airway secretions, including viruses); thanks to a one-way valve (HEPA or microbiological), the air exhaled by the casualty is directed outwards rather than towards the rescuer.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
I've heard about the defibrillator (AED) and seen signs showing where it is available in various places. What is it and what is it for?

An AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is a portable medical device available in more and more public places such as shopping centres, schools and stadiums – hence the distinctive signs. It is used to defibrillate the heart in sudden cardiac arrest. The device is designed so that people without medical training can use it. Once switched on, the AED guides the user with voice prompts. Through electrodes stuck to the casualty's bare chest, the device analyses the heart rhythm by itself and, if necessary, delivers an electric shock to restore its normal rhythm.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
When should an AED be used?

If the casualty is unconscious and not breathing – connect an AED as soon as possible. The device will assess by itself whether defibrillation is needed and will guide you through the whole rescue.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
How does using an AED increase the casualty's chance of survival?

Early defibrillation with an AED is key in cardiac arrest – using an AED early means a 60% greater chance of restoring circulation. Unfortunately, every minute of delay reduces the casualty's chance of surviving cardiac arrest by around 10%. We want as many people as possible to use AEDs, and to use them as quickly as possible when they recognise sudden cardiac arrest in a casualty.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Is there an app that could help me locate an AED nearby?

Yes. There are several, e.g. Pierwszy Ratownik (1R) or Mapa AED. The app shows the nearest available AEDs and how far away they are, and sets up navigation to the nearest device.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Is the owner of an AED obliged to register it and make it available when it needs to be used?

In Poland there is no general legal obligation to register an AED or make it available to third parties – the AED owner acts voluntarily. Registration in apps (e.g. Pierwszy Ratownik (1R) or Mapa AED) is recommended to make it easier to locate, but not mandatory. There are no penalties for locking an AED away, and in line with the guidelines we encourage easy access. An AED should be available 24/7, without codes or keys that block its use when needed.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Can I use an AED if the casualty is a pregnant woman?

Yes, you can and should use an AED on a pregnant woman in sudden cardiac arrest — it is not only safe but recommended, to save the life of both the mother and the child. The procedure is the same as for adults — stick the electrodes on the chest, making sure they are placed below the breast tissue, and follow the device's voice instructions.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Can I use an AED if the casualty is a child?

Yes, you can and should use an AED on a child in sudden cardiac arrest. Depending on the AED model, for children aged 1 to 8 (or under 25 kg body weight) use the paediatric mode — depending on the device, you switch it on with a special button, a switch on the device, a dedicated paediatric key or by connecting paediatric electrodes. If there is no paediatric mode or child electrodes — use the standard adult mode. Over the age of 8, always use the adult mode and electrodes.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
The casualty has damaged skin where the electrodes should be placed. What should I do?

You can still use the AED — acting quickly is what matters most. Place the electrodes avoiding the damaged skin — if the standard positions are not available, place one electrode on the front of the chest and the other in the middle of the back, between the shoulder blades, so that the heart is between the two electrodes. Avoid placing electrodes directly on open wounds or burns. Follow the device's voice instructions.

</details>

<details class="wp-block-details sn-faq__item is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
A casualty is lying in the street, unconscious and not breathing. There is an AED nearby, but it's raining and I don't know if I can use it safely.

Yes, you can safely use an AED in the rain — saving a life takes priority over the weather. Before applying the electrodes, dry the casualty's chest, e.g. with gauze or a T-shirt, so that the electrodes stick well to the skin. Don't delay — start chest compressions and switch on the AED immediately. Modern AEDs are water-resistant and designed for use in different weather conditions.

</details>

Pytania i odpowiedzi o szkolenia z pierwszej pomocy: zapisy, miejsce, czas trwania, certyfikat i co ile lat powtarzać kurs.
