The paediatric antibacterial filter<\/strong> is an electrostatic antibacterial filter for a resuscitator, intended for paediatric patients. It protects against moisture with low resistance to gas flow.<\/p>\n

The filter is placed between the face mask and the self-inflating bag. In a child, tidal volumes are small and the airway is sensitive, so the filter\u2019s low resistance is particularly important \u2013 it does not hinder gentle ventilation.<\/p>\n

Antibacterial filters are part of R1 kit equipment \u2013 the KSRG guidelines also provide for filters for the paediatric resuscitator. The paediatric antibacterial filter<\/strong> is replaced after each use, so it is worth keeping a supply.<\/p>\n

The paediatric antibacterial filter<\/strong> fits paediatric resuscitators, e.g. the paediatric PVC self-inflating bag<\/a>. The adult version is the adult filter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Why a separate paediatric antibacterial filter?<\/h2>\n

A paediatric filter is adapted to a child\u2019s smaller tidal volumes. Low flow resistance allows gentle ventilation without extra effort. In a rescue kit it is worth keeping a supply of filters next to the paediatric bag so that after each use you can immediately replace the used item and have the equipment ready for the next call-out.<\/p>\n

Ventilation in a child<\/h2>\n

With a child, resuscitation starts with 5 rescue breaths. When ventilating with a bag, use a mask that fits the child\u2019s face and squeeze the bag gently, only until the chest visibly rises. Then continue compressions and breaths at 15:2.<\/p>\n
