Blizzard Compact Trauma 2-layer rescue blanket

The Blizzard Compact Trauma rescue blanket is a two-layer rescue blanket designed for situations in which the upper body – torso, arms and neck – needs particular protection. It is ideal for a backpack, car and summer trips, as well as for mass casualty kits, because it takes up very little space.

Reflexcell™ material consists of layers with air cells and a metallised layer that reflects body heat back to the casualty. The blanket is 100% waterproof and windproof, and vacuum packing means it takes up little space. Blizzard blankets can be stored indefinitely – they are not affected by temperature changes or moisture. Size and weight may vary slightly due to the nature of the material.

Unfolded, the blanket measures 110 × 156 cm and vacuum-packed 17 × 11 × 2.5 cm; it weighs 125 g. The thermal insulation rating is 5 TOG. The Blizzard Compact Trauma rescue blanket is worth having in your first aid kit, backpack and car.

Why the Blizzard Compact Trauma rescue blanket?

It protects against hypothermia and limits the severity of shock, yet fits in a pocket. Two layers with air cells insulate much better than an ordinary foil blanket. The Blizzard Compact Trauma rescue blanket also protects the casualty from rain and wind.

Hypothermia after injury – how to prevent it?

An injured casualty loses heat faster than you think – even in summer, on wet grass or in a draught. Hypothermia impairs blood clotting and worsens shock. Insulate the casualty from the ground, remove wet clothing if possible and wrap them tightly in the blanket, including around the neck and head. Call for help on 112 – action taken by a bystander can decide whether the casualty survives.
