RAPID choking vest – TRAUMA KIT Trainer is a specialist training device for the practical learning of how to help choking people. It allows safe practice of abdominal thrusts (the Heimlich manoeuvre) and back blows.

The exercise is based on a foam plug imitating a foreign body. When the manoeuvre is performed correctly, the plug is dynamically “fired out”, so the Participant and the instructor can see straight away whether the action was effective.

The set includes: vest (1 pc), bag (1 pc), foreign body (20 pcs), foreign body on a string (20 pcs) and instructions. The trainer weighs 1.2 kg. It is intended for companies, public offices and schools, universities, training centres, instructors, OSP units and KPP Rescuers. RAPID choking vest lets you assess how effective the manoeuvre was by whether the foam plug is fired out.

Why use a RAPID choking vest in first aid courses?

The most important feature is immediate feedback. The plug being fired out allows the Participant and the instructor to judge unambiguously whether the action was effective. RAPID choking vest also makes it possible to practise both techniques for clearing the airway on a single trainer.

The soft-material construction minimises the risk of injury during practice. The trainer is intended for health and safety (BHP), TCCC, KPP and first aid courses in workplaces, schools and OSP units, as well as for health education at universities and in educational institutions.

How to practise safely and how to help in a choking situation?

The trainer must only be used under the supervision of an experienced first aid instructor. Do not use excessive force, as this risks injuring the person practising.

In a real situation, first make sure that giving help is safe, and call for help on 999 or 112. If the casualty is coughing effectively, encourage them to keep coughing. If the cough is ineffective, give up to 5 back blows, followed by up to 5 abdominal thrusts. If the casualty loses consciousness and is not breathing normally, start CPR. Details are described in the article Chapter X – Choking.
