LifeVac LV08 – airway clearance device, in a case

LifeVac LV08 is a device for clearing the airway of a person who is coughing or choking. It is used as a complement to the standard first aid procedure when it does not work. According to the manufacturer, it does not require any special knowledge or training.

It works by sucking the foreign object out of the airway. It is a non-invasive solution: the device has no part that is inserted into the mouth, so it does not damage the gums, teeth, palate or tongue. Using it takes three steps: place the mask, sealing it tightly over the mouth and nose, push the handle towards the face and pull it back.

The LV08 version comes in a handy plastic case with a wall-mounting bracket. The set includes the suction device, a large mask, 2 medium masks (one for testing), a small mask, a paediatric mask, instructions and an A3 poster with the procedure. LifeVac is a single-use device, supplied non-sterile.

LifeVac LV08 is ideal for schools, nurseries, restaurants and care homes. The version in a pouch is LifeVac LV14.

Choking – what to do, in order

If the casualty is coughing, encourage them to keep coughing. If coughing is ineffective, give up to 5 back blows between the shoulder blades, then up to 5 abdominal thrusts, alternating. If this does not help, a suction device can complement these actions. If the casualty loses consciousness, call 112 and start CPR.
