The CAT Gen 7 training tourniquet is the blue version of the C-A-T Gen 7 tourniquet, intended for educational purposes only – for training sessions, courses and self-practice.
Its design allows the tourniquet to be applied and tightened with one hand. The windlass, made of light, durable plastic, is secured against accidental release, and the tourniquet has space for recording the time of application. Soft padding protects the skin from chafing, the length can be adjusted quickly, and the tourniquet is easy to keep clean. This means that on the training version you practise exactly the same actions as with a real tourniquet.
The blue colour distinguishes it from rescue tourniquets so that it does not end up in a first aid kit by mistake. For rescue use, choose the CAT Gen 7 (black) or CAT 7 civilian (orange). The CAT Gen 7 training tourniquet is useful for instructors and on first aid courses.
Why the CAT Gen 7 training tourniquet?
Applying a tourniquet under stress requires practised movements. A rescue tourniquet can wear out after use in exercises, which is why a separate training version is needed for learning. The CAT Gen 7 training tourniquet should not go into a first aid kit.
Other tourniquets can be found in the category tourniquets and pressure bars.
How to practise applying a tourniquet?
Practise regularly: applying it to the arm and thigh, on yourself and a partner, with your right and left hand, and over time – in gloves and in a hurry. After each application, check that the strap fits without slack, the windlass is locked and the time is recorded. Do not put a training tourniquet in a first aid kit – after many exercises it may be worn. In a real situation, call for help on 112 – action taken by a bystander can decide whether the casualty survives.
