Why is a TRAUMA KIT AED with CPR mask useful with a defibrillator?

AED electrodes must adhere firmly to the skin. Clothing, including a bra, covers the skin and makes it impossible to check whether there are any wounds where the electrodes will be placed. When clothing cannot be undone quickly, sharp curved scissors help. With a very hairy chest it may be necessary to shave the area under the electrodes, and the gauze will come in handy if the casualty's chest or face needs to be dried. By reaching for the TRAUMA KIT AED with CPR mask, the Rescuer gets scissors, razor, gauze, gloves, masks and a compression sensor in one place.

The CPR mask protects against direct contact with the casualty's mouth, nose, saliva and blood; it is fitted with a one-way valve and a bacterial filter. The LivePAD CPR sensor supports resuscitation in people over 12 years of age after sudden cardiac arrest. The kit complements the equipment from the AED defibrillators. In the TRAUMA KIT AED with CPR mask, the CPR mask has a one-way valve and a bacterial filter, which limits the Rescuer's contact with the casualty's saliva and blood.

How do you use the kit in sudden cardiac arrest?

First make sure the scene is safe, assess the casualty and call for help on 999 or 112. Put on the gloves, expose the chest (cut through clothing if necessary), shave any hair where the electrodes will go and, if needed, dry the skin with the gauze. These steps take a few seconds and improve electrode adhesion. The LivePAD CPR sensor is used once the person giving help determines that the heart has stopped; it guides compression depth with an audible and visual signal. Do not interrupt compressions for longer than necessary, and follow the AED prompts.

We describe how to operate the device in the article Chapter VIII – Automated external defibrillator (AED).
