Paediatric electrodes for Philips HeartStart HS1 are paediatric electrodes (Infant/Child SMART Pads Cartridge) for the Philips HeartStart HS1defibrillator, intended for children under 8 years of age and under 25 kg. They have a shelf life of approx. 24 months.
The electrodes are packed in a rigid plastic cartridge that protects them from drying out and damage and connects directly to the defibrillator. A strong hydrogel adhesive makes them easy to apply, and the active electrode area (85 cm²) is suited to a child. The defibrillator detects if the electrodes have dried out and tells you when they need replacing.
The cartridge and each electrode carry a graphic showing how to place them on a child's chest. The lead is approx. 135 cm long. The electrodes are single-use and may only be used on one patient. Paediatric electrodes for Philips HeartStart HS1 are worth having with every defibrillator in places with children.
For adults use the electrodes for Philips HeartStart HS1, and for training – HS1 training set. Paediatric electrodes for Philips HeartStart HS1 do not fit the FRx model.
Why paediatric electrodes for Philips HeartStart HS1 in a cartridge?
A cartridge means fast replacement and constant monitoring – the defibrillator checks the electrodes every day, so you know they are ready. In a school, preschool or at a swimming pool, a spare paediatric cartridge with the HS1 lets you switch immediately to helping a child.
You will find other electrodes in the category AED defibrillator accessories.
An AED on a child – it can and must be used
For a child in sudden cardiac arrest, an AED should be used as soon as possible. If you have paediatric electrodes, use them; if not, use standard adult electrodes, because delay is more dangerous than higher energy. On a small child the electrodes are usually placed on the front and back of the chest so that they do not touch. Remember that in children cardiac arrest most often has a respiratory cause, which is why CPR starts with 5 rescue breaths.
We describe the basics of resuscitation in the guide chapter Basic life support: CPR.
