Rules for using splints for a limb fracture
First assess the safety of the scene and call for help on 999 or 112. If the fracture is accompanied by massive bleeding, stopping it takes priority: direct pressure, and when bleeding from a limb is life-threatening – a tourniquet. Only then do you move on to immobilisation. The set of 14 kramer splints is KSRG compliant and supplied in an R112 carry bag with handles.
Choose the splint size according to the site of the injury to the upper or lower limb, and immobilisation should be carried out by a trained person. You can read about how to deal with bleeding in the article Chapter II – Massive bleeding – first aid.
