WoundClot Surgical 5 X 7.5 cm is a sterile haemostatic gauze, a single-use medical device intended for controlling bleeding during surgical procedures. The pack contains 1 piece measuring 5 x 7.5 cm. On contact with blood, the three-dimensional gel matrix turns into a strongly adhesive structure that stabilises the wound and stops the bleeding.
The gauze absorbs blood up to 25 times its own weight and adheres to the surrounding tissue. The haemostatic effect lasts for up to 24 hours. In massive bleeding, strong direct pressure on the wound is still necessary. The range of applications includes arterial, venous and capillary bleeding in trauma, surgical and emergency settings, including in patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medication and in coagulopathies. This is equipment for trained people, e.g. in medical facilities and rescue teams.
Why choose WoundClot Surgical 5 X 7.5 cm?
format WoundClot Surgical 5 X 7.5 cm is one of the sizes available in this range, chosen according to the type of wound and the anatomical area. WoundClot Surgical 5 X 7.5 cm is a good choice where a small haemostatic dressing is needed rather than a large sheet.
The gauze is bioabsorbable: once haemostasis is achieved, it can be left in the wound and is fully resorbed within 7–14 days. Any remaining gel can be removed by rinsing it with water or saline, with no risk of damaging tissue or vessels. WoundClot Surgical 5 X 7.5 cm is supplied in a sterile single-unit pack with 1 piece of gauze.
Rules for using haemostatic gauze
Open the pack only immediately before use. Sterility is maintained only if the single-unit pack has not been damaged, so do not use a damaged one. Use the whole gauze once opened, do not reuse it and do not re-sterilise it. Once haemostasis is achieved, it is recommended to remove excess material by liberally moistening the wound area with water or saline. Around bone openings, areas confined by bone, the spinal cord and the optic nerve, excess must always be removed, because the product may swell and exert unwanted pressure.
In massive bleeding outside an operating room, first ensure your own safety, call for help on 999 or 112 and apply direct pressure. A tourniquet is applied when bleeding from a limb is life-threatening. You can read more about this in the article Massive haemorrhage – first aid.

How should the gauze be stored?
In a dry place, at room temperature from 5°C to 35°C. Do not use it after the expiry date.
