First aid training for teachers

First aid at school, nursery and crèche

At school, nursery and crèche, it is teachers and carers who are on the scene first when a child chokes, falls or suddenly loses consciousness. Our first aid training for teachers combines two programmes: adult basic life support with an AED and first aid for children and infants.

We train whole teaching staff and care teams on site at your institution, in small groups – up to 20 people (with more than 12 Participants the course is always run by at least two Instructors). Most of the time is practice on adult, child and infant manikins. We adapt the programme and date to the way your institution works.

2. First aid priorities: you will learn to recognise priority threats and find out how to stay safe during a rescue

4. Coordinating a rescue: we show you how to effectively get bystanders involved – explaining the psychological aspects of giving first aid
5. Assessing the casualty: we show you how to examine a casualty and assess their vital functions and level of consciousness. You will learn the correct approach to a conscious and an unconscious casualty, how to open the airway and how to check breathing

Practical workshops60 min
CPR WITH AN AED1. Causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA): we explain the most common causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest, how much time the casualty has in such a situation and how important bystanders are in the so-called chain of survival.
2. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) practice: through intensive practice you will learn to perform CPR correctly – both on your own and as part of a team. Be ready for real physical effort – we practise CPR in different variants, using training manikins that reflect different casualty body types
3. Using an AED during a rescue: you will learn to use an Automated External Defibrillator correctly during simulated rescues. You will practise on the most popular, and therefore most commonly available, types of devices. You will also find out where AEDs can be found in public spaces.

INJURY CARE1. Trauma casualty: you will learn how to help correctly with the most common injuries, minimising pain and the risk of complications
2. Exercises and simulations: you will learn to dress limb fractures, sprains and dislocations, bleeding, burns, stab and gunshot wounds, lacerations, chest and abdominal wounds. You will learn techniques for stabilising injuries – especially of the spine – and what to do in the case of chemical, thermal and electrical injuries
3. Dedicated dressings and improvisation: you will learn to use dressings designed for specific injuries, and also how to cope when specialist equipment is not available
Practical workshops90-120 min
FIRST AID IN MEDICAL EMERGENCIES1. Heart attack and stroke: statistically the most common “killers” – we will teach you to recognise their symptoms and respond correctly
2. Choking: during the exercises you will learn to clear a casualty's airway both with dedicated techniques and with the LifeVac device, which significantly increases the effectiveness of the rescue when a foreign body is stuck in the airway
3. Other emergencies: You will learn what to do in the event of a severe allergic reaction, a seizure, fainting, feeling faint, shortness of breath, diabetic problems and other emergencies. Along the way we will dispel the most common myths, which lead to risky behaviour in these situations – in our classes you will only learn procedures in line with the current recommendations of the European Resuscitation Council
Practical workshops60 min
RECOVERY POSITION1. When to use it: you will learn when a casualty should be placed in the recovery position, how to do it safely and how to cope when there is a big difference in weight and build between you and the casualty
2. Exercises: you will learn to place a casualty in the recovery position regardless of the position they were in
Practical workshops30 min
A FIRST AID KIT READY FOR ACTION1. Quality, not quantity: we use an example to explain the difference between a standard “supermarket” first aid kit and a practical emergency kit
2. Dedicated kits: we present the recommended contents of a home, car and travel first aid kit
3. Your own emergency kit: we will advise you how to put together a first aid kit wisely, so that it is a reliable support in any situation. If you like, you can equip yourself straight away with proven equipment that you will learn to use during the course – our Participants get special discounts on products available in the Ratowacze Shop and we always bring a few sets of the dressings we recommend most

IntroductionDid you know that in a life-threatening situation it is the first few minutes and your reaction that can be crucial? In medical emergencies, quickly recognising the symptoms, assessing the situation correctly and acting immediately can genuinely save someone's life and affect the casualty's future health. On our course you will learn to act quickly, consciously and effectively.

We will show you how to recognise the first symptoms of medical emergencies and what to do for the casualty before the emergency services arrive.

You will learn what is worth having in your first aid kit, which medicines can be given in specific situations and which rescue tools you can have yourself, so that you feel more confident wherever you are. We will teach you how to stay calm under stress and why composure and confident action matter so much in life-threatening situations.

We focus on learning to recognise symptoms through realistic scenarios. We want to prepare you not only to help others, but also to look after your own safety and health.

First aid training for teachers – what does it cover?

First aid training for teachers is designed around the situations that happen most often in educational institutions. Teachers learn, among other things:

  • Assessing safety, consciousness and breathing, and calling for help.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of adults, children and infants – on realistic manikins.
  • Using an AED, including on children.
  • What to do when children and infants are choking.
  • Placing a casualty in the recovery position.
  • Responding to medical emergencies and injuries.

You will find the detailed programmes of both courses above, in the “BLS & AED – first aid basics” and “First Aid for Children and Infants” tabs.

First aid training for nurseries and crèches

In nurseries and crèches, skills related to the youngest children are especially important: resuscitation of infants and young children, which differs from adult resuscitation, and dealing with choking – the most common cause of breathing arrest in children. For carers and crèche staff we focus on exactly these elements, practising them on infant manikins.

Training at your school

We come to your institution with a full set of equipment: manikins, training defibrillators and trainers. If you don't have a suitable room, we can organise the training at the Ratowacze training centre – in Kraków, Niepołomice or Kielce. We are constantly expanding our training base – more permanent locations are planned. We train at Clients' premises all over Poland. We also train pupils – as part of the “First Aid for Kids” classes on the page First aid. The school can also order health & safety training and fire safety training for all staff.

When a child's life is in danger, a bystander taking action can decide whether they survive – and at school that bystander is most often a teacher. It's also worth checking your institution's equipment: AED defibrillator and first aid kits you will find in our shop.

Yes – we come to your institution with all the equipment. If you don't have a suitable room, we can organise the training at the Ratowacze training centre.

How many people can take part in the training?

We train in small groups – up to 20 people. There are a maximum of 12 Participants per Instructor, so with a larger group the course is always run by at least two Instructors.

How often should first aid training be repeated?

The European Resuscitation Council guidelines recommend repeating BLS training regularly. We recommend refresher training at least twice a year.
