The Philips HeartStart FRx defibrillator is a rugged, semi-automatic AED that can be used by people with no medical experience as well as by emergency services and rescuers. In this set the defibrillator is supplied in a carry case, together with a battery, SMART Pads II electrodes and instructions.
Operation comes down to three steps: the green button switches on the voice prompts and icons, the rescuer applies the electrodes as shown in the drawing, and when the device advises a shock – presses the orange button. The metronome and CPR instructions give the number, rate and depth of compressions and when to give breaths, and Quick Shock allows a shock typically within 8 seconds of the last compression.
SMART Pads II electrodes are pre-connected and are used for adults and children – for a child under 8 years or 25 kg, just insert the Philips FRx paediatric key (sold separately), and the defibrillator reduces the energy to 50 J and adjusts the instructions. Daily, weekly and monthly self-tests check the electrodes and circuits, and readiness is indicated by a flashing green LED. The Philips HeartStart FRx defibrillator should be kept in its case, in a visible, signposted place so that anyone can reach it quickly.
The housing has an IP55 rating, withstands a 1.22 m drop and loads up to 500 kg, and the defibrillator weighs approx. 1.6 kg. The Philips FRx battery typically lasts 4 years on standby and at least 200 shocks. When training electrodes are inserted, the FRx switches to training mode with eight scenarios. The Philips HeartStart FRx defibrillator works well in service vehicles, at sports facilities and outdoor events.
Why the Philips HeartStart FRx defibrillator?
The FRx combines ease of use with resistance to harsh conditions: dust, water, drops and pressure. That is why it works well in an office as well as in a service vehicle or at an outdoor event. One type of electrode for adults and children lowers maintenance costs. The Philips HeartStart FRx defibrillator requires new electrodes to be fitted after each use.
You will find the same defibrillator in a watertight case as the Philips FRx in a PELI case. You will find other models in the category AED defibrillators and accessories.
An AED ready at all times
A defibrillator only helps if it works and can be reached quickly. Appoint a person to regularly check the readiness indicator and the expiry dates of the battery and electrodes. When someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally, call 112, start chest compressions and ask for an AED to be brought – action taken by a bystander can decide whether the casualty survives.
