The TRAUMA KIT airway module is a pouch with equipment for securing the airway and supporting the casualty's breathing. Inside you will find UG 3 and UG 5 oropharyngeal airways, an NG 7.5 nasopharyngeal airway with 5 g lubricant, a Pocket BVM resuscitator and a pulse oximeter for assessing blood oxygen saturation.

The set also includes a BCS Chest Seal Vented TRAUMA KIT vented dressing, an FFP2 mask, a bacterial-viral breathing filter for adults, 2.5 cm x 5 m adhesive tape, 2 pairs of disposable nitrile gloves in size M, 2 pairs in size L and an instruction leaflet.

The airways and the resuscitator are specialist equipment, so they should be used by a trained person. The module comes in two versions, orange and green, with the same contents. The green version is aimed, among others, at uniformed services, the military sector and shooting range owners. The TRAUMA KIT airway module contains three airways, UG 3, UG 5 and NG 7.5, and 5 g of lubricant for inserting them.

Why the TRAUMA KIT airway module?

This module brings together in one pouch the tools for opening the airway and for monitoring the casualty. The pulse oximeter lets you quickly and non-invasively assess blood oxygen saturation, while the Pocket BVM resuscitator with a bacterial-viral filter for adults is used to support breathing. The 5 g lubricant makes the airways easier to insert. In the TRAUMA KIT airway module, the pulse oximeter and the Pocket BVM resuscitator sit alongside the FFP2 mask and the breathing filter. The TRAUMA KIT airway module is available in orange and green versions with the same contents.

The module complements the extended TRAUMA KIT sets and is intended for pre-hospital care. The Oxford fabric pouch (Oxford 190 g/m² in the green version) is compact and convenient to carry. The person giving help has an FFP2 mask, a filter and nitrile gloves to hand, and the adhesive tape is used to secure dressings.

Rules for using the module in practice

First assess the safety of the scene, put on gloves and call for help on 999 or 112. Only then proceed with actions at the casualty. The UG and NG airways and the Pocket BVM resuscitator are intended for a trained person, so do not use them on a casualty without training.

The order of actions with a casualty is covered in the article Chapter V – Assessing the casualty, and you can read about calling for help correctly in the text Emergency number 112 and calling for help.
